If one thing disappearing could blow up your life, you have a concentration problem.
It could be your job, biggest client, business, platform, spouse’s income, family money, or something else you’ve come to depend on.
And everything may be going perfectly well.
That’s the best time to think about it.
First, what exactly is FU Money?
Yes, FU stands for exactly what you think it does: f*** you.
For me, it’s less about telling someone else to f*** off and more about telling the world: I get to decide what happens next.
You can change jobs, leave a client, work less, move, try something new, or simply change your mind without money immediately making the decision for you.
FU Money gives you options.
Want more options before you need them?
Subscribe to FU Money Plan. Free subscribers get my essays, frameworks, case studies, and observations on money, work, business, recognition, and reinvention. Paid subscribers get The Full Receipts: the numbers, experiments, mistakes, what worked, what didn’t, and what I’m changing next.
You probably already have plenty to work with.
You may have spent 10, 20, or 30 years building expertise, a career, a business, relationships, a reputation, or skills people already pay for.
The better question is how much of that value actually belongs to you.
If your company disappeared tomorrow, what would travel with you? If your biggest client left, where else could income come from? If a platform stopped sending you leads, could people still find you?
Those questions are much cheaper to answer before you desperately need the answers.
Every FU Money Plan comes down to four things.
1. Income
Where does your money come from, and how concentrated is it?
Someone earning $250,000 from one employer can have a fantastic income and very little room to maneuver if that income disappears.
Diversification doesn’t require seven side hustles. A few well-chosen sources can be enough to make one loss survivable instead of catastrophic.
2. Ownership
What do you actually own?
Your expertise. Relationships. Reputation. Intellectual property. Direct access to an audience. Products, assets, systems, equity, or anything else that retains value when your current role changes.
Your job title is rented.
Build things that travel with you.
3. Leverage
How much of your income requires your direct time?
If every dollar or euro requires another hour from you, eventually you run out of hours.
Leverage can come from products, licensing, intellectual property, investments, systems, people, technology, or simply charging differently for expertise you already have.
The point is breathing room.
4. Options
If your current setup changed tomorrow, what could you realistically do?
Maybe you could consult, advise, take another role, sell something you know, build a small business, reduce your hours, or take some time off.
The more viable choices you have, the less power any single job, client, business, platform, or person has over your life.
That’s the whole point.
Your plan might be surprisingly small.
People make this far more complicated than it needs to be.
Your FU Money Plan could be a job you enjoy plus advisory income. A consulting business plus investments. A salary plus a board role. A business plus one product that earns without you.
Please do not build yourself another exhausting full-time job in the name of freedom.
The best plan is the simplest combination of income, ownership, leverage, and options that gives you enough control.

I learned this after I needed it.
At 38, after more than 20 years in marketing and a former CMO title, I assumed I could get another great job.
Three career coaches and more than 200 applications later, nobody hired me.
Since then, I’ve tried 12 income streams and made six business pivots. A few failed, several worked, and some made very good money while creating a life I didn’t want to keep living.
That last category taught me a lot.
Revenue alone tells you almost nothing about whether something is worth building.
I want to know what you kept, how much time it took, how dependent it is on you, and whether you actually want the life that comes with it.
What you’ll find here
FU Money Plan is about building more control over how you work and earn.
Get Paid covers income streams, monetization, offers, pricing, business models, and the economics behind making money.
Get Recognized covers reputation, positioning, visibility, writing, platforms, and turning expertise into professional equity that travels with you.
Full Receipts is where I share the numbers people usually leave out: revenue, costs, profit, hours, conversion, experiments, mistakes, and what I’d do differently.
How I Got Here is where the messier personal stories live.
Live Conversations features people building, changing, questioning, and redesigning how they work and earn.
Free or paid?
Most of my essays, observations, ideas, and case studies are free.
Paid subscribers get closer to what’s actually happening behind the scenes: the numbers, experiments, decisions, what worked, what didn’t, and what I’m changing next.
After eight years, 12 income streams, and six pivots, I’ve accumulated a decent collection of scars.
I might as well make them useful.
Start here.
Ask yourself one question:
If the biggest source of security in my life disappeared tomorrow, how many real options would I have?
Keep the job, business, relationship, or life you like.
Just build enough outside any single source of dependence that you’re staying by choice.
That’s FU Money.
Ready to join me to build FU Money?
See you on the other side!
Xoxo, 🫶
